This event is part of Structures of Community

Quiet Down There (QDT) will be in residence at Dorset Place with their Community Laundrette project. The laundrette has been a mainstay on high streets for nearly 75 years – the sounds, smells and textures are so familiar to all those regular users. It is also a place of sanctuary, a place to be quiet or to connect with a friendly stranger.

For 3 weeks local residents will be invited into the gallery to wash, make and create together through workshops, events and drop-in sessions. QDT will be inviting visitors to imagine the possibilities of a community-run laundrette in their local area, showcasing work made by artists in laundrettes around the country and discussing ideas for building a sense belonging through culture in everyday, shared spaces.

Quiet Down There (QDT) is a Community Interest Company that specialises in amplifying the everyday. QDT believe that culture is everywhere and everyone creates culture in their own way.  QDT strive to create and support environments where individuals, artists, communities and organisations can articulate and develop their own culture – making the invisible visible. www.quietdownthere.co.uk
