Brighton CCA

A new centre for
contemporary arts at the
University of Brighton

This event is part of COMMUNAL

“The mammoth hunters spectacularly occupy the cave wall and mind, but what we actually did to stay alive was gather seeds, roots, sprouts, shoots, leaves, nuts, berries, fruits, and grains..”

Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s text, The Carrier Bag of Fiction, and its focus on the everyday tale, we invite you to arrange a collection of items that reflect a history or a story, to observe while drawing. These items could be something you’ve foraged on a walk, things you have collected from others, items you always carry with you in your bag or simply what you have on your bedside table.

This will introduce some quick, fun techniques to loosen up the drafts person in you! Including blind sketches and fast impressions. This session will help us creatively capture of our still life installations.

Whether this is your first time drawing or you’re a practising artist, these sessions share share drawing exercises for any ability. This is a family friendly event, all welcome.

To have ready:
– Paper (5-10 sheets)
– One drawing material (charcoal, pencil, pen, ink etc.)
